Becoming the righteousness of God

What is righteousness?

Pieter Kirstein

We receiving the righteousness of Jesus simply means that through His propitiation work on the cross we can be forgiven from our past life of sin because all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

He fulfilled the righteous requirements of the law by dying in our place to satisfy the justice of God and that’s why we can be accepted and born into the family of the Father as if we never sinned, because we return to God in true repentance.

Justification – God’s justice satisfied in Christ.

Salvation is only the beginning.

So now you are declared in right standing with God and justified by the redemption found in His blood but you are still carnal and your mind is unrenewed to the ways of God.

Now what?

Are you going to live as a born-again civilian in the outer court of your carnal ways and thinking being driven by the instincts and dictates of your 5 physical senses as just a born-again person that camps on the level of salvation, or do you want to become a disciple of Christ?

Jesus said trough a prophecy given to J Leland Earls; Now consider the mount on which Jesus taught His disciples, and that which is revealed in what is commonly called the ‘Sermon on the Mount.’ Were there not multitudes which came to hear that which Jesus spoke? And were not the disciples taken apart and instructed in that which the multitudes were not ready to hear? I say to you, I am calling to myself a people who will sit at my feet and hear my words—who will be instructed in the truths of my kingdom and my righteousness.

That which is revealed in the Sermon on the Mount is what I require of those who would enter my heavenly kingdom. For was it not said, ‘You shall be perfect as your heavenly father is perfect?’ (Matt. 5:48) Will I not do a perfecting work in those who are to be received of me in my own realm?

For I say, except your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the nominal Christian of today, you shall not enter my heavenly kingdom.

My kingdom is not for babes and toddlers but for those who have been brought to maturity. For my kingdom is a ruling kingdom, and only those qualified to take a responsibility in my kingdom shall be admitted thereto. Others, though saved, will be barred until they have come into that minimum perfection which I require. I say to you, study carefully the precepts of the kingdom as revealed in the Sermon on the Mount, for therein is the pattern of righteousness which I require. It is for those who are willing to be my disciples. Others will hear the words and know the outer husk thereof, but only those fully instructed into my kingdom by my Spirit shall reap the benefits of this righteousness of the heart.

Therefore hear my word my people! Will you be among those I am drawing to my mount?
Psalm 24

And will you sit at my feet day by day and let me teach you my ways? (end of quote)

Isaiah 1:16 Wash you, make yourself clean; put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes; cease to do evil;
17 Learn to do good; seek justice, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.
18 Come now, and let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
19 If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land:
20 But if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD has spoken it.

1 John 3:7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that does righteousness is righteous, even as He is righteous.

Romans 12

1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

There is a divine condition set before every child of God if we want to understand what righteousness is.

Now I’m going to be bold and make a statement; the reason why most Christians are living in complete ignorance of what righteousness actually is, is because they are not in pursuit of God. You will see in this teaching that if you resist spending personal time with the Lord through the study of His word then you cannot discover the power of His righteousness.

God made the righteousness of His Son available to every believer but so few are walking in it.

The contents and motives of our hearts are laid bare and exposed before the Lord by that which we pursue.

We are not called as kingdom people to pursue churches, personalities, fame, fortune, worldly possessions or the traditions and doctrines of people.

I wonder how many people know what righteousness is?

We read in Mat 5:6 Blessed are they who do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

God who is holy sent His Son to deliver us from the rebellious ways of our sinful flesh.

We read in Titus 2:11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,

12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live sensibly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ;

14 Who gave himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a people for His own, zealous of good works.

15 These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise you.

Jesus said in Mat 5:20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

The scribes and Pharisees were religious hypocrites who made a show of religion. They were stage players before the people but walked not in righteousness before God. They only portrayed themselves to be servants of God to win the favor of men but God knew their hypocritical hearts. They loved to make a show of what they professed to be without conforming to what they preached. These people only “talked” well of God but in their hearts they knew Him not. They saw the Son of God as a major threat because they didn’t want to give up the kingdoms that they built in the name of religion. They loved the praise and accolades of men but were enemies of God in their hearts and in their minds.

These people were bound and blinded by the spirit of religion. The spirit of religion is an anti-Christ spirit that wants to bind people to a man made system of religious works and performance. It seeks to subject it’s victims to unscriptural government by usurping the lordship of Jesus Christ. It seeks to make people dependant on religious leaders through witchcraft, intimidation and control. It seeks to blind God’s children from understanding the way of righteousness.

It seeks to establish ones own righteousness through religious works as in the account of the Pharisee in Luke 18:9 And he spoke this parable unto certain who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:

10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a tax collector.

11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank you, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector.

12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.

13 And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for everyone that exalts himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.

Luke 1:68 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for He has visited and redeemed His people,

69 And has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of His servant David;

70 As He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets, who have been since the world began:

71 That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;

72 To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember His holy covenant;

73 The oath which he swore to our father Abraham,

74 That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve Him without fear,

75 In holiness and righteousness before Him, all the days of our life.

As we read in 2Co 5:21 For He has made Him, who knew no sin, to be sin for us; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.

What does it help to only hear that we are the righteousness of God but then continue a life of sin and rebellion?

What does God tell us in His word?

1 Corinthians 15:33 Be not deceived: evil companions corrupt good morals.

34 Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.

In the following scripture we shall discover that righteousness is a learned thing although we received the righteousness of Jesus through faith. We cannot live in ignorance of that righteousness by living as we please without expecting consequences. God is very clear about this fact.

So how do we learn what righteousness is?

Proverbs 2

1 My son, if you will receive my words, and lay up my commandments with you;

2 So that you incline your ear unto wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding;

3 Yea, if you cry after knowledge, and lift up your voice for understanding;

4 If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hid treasures;

5 Then shall you understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

6 For the LORD gives wisdom: out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.

7 He lays up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a shield to them that walk uprightly.

8 He keeps the paths of justice, and preserves the way of his saints.

9 Then shall you understand righteousness, and justice, and equity; yea, every good path.

10 When wisdom enters into your heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto your soul;

11 Discretion shall preserve you, understanding shall keep you.

12 To deliver you from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaks perverse things;

13 Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;

14 Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the perverseness of the wicked;

15 Whose ways are crooked, and who are perverse in their paths.

Can you see why we need to learn what righteousness is child of God?

I heard a well known preacher teach the lie that the Holy Spirit does not convict God’s children of sin. He only reminds us of our righteousness.

This is heresy that justifies sin under the banner of false grace. This is why many people are so carnal because they are parelized in self righteousness which means they live according to their own standard of what they think is right.

Jesus said in Joh 16:8 And when the Holy Spirit is come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.

Without conviction of sin you will never learn what righteousness is child of God. This is just one of many reasons why God is going to shake every doctrine and false foundation because people have no clue whatsoever about our righteousness in Jesus Christ. If you live a life of rebellion and sin contrary to the righteous standard of the Son of God then His righteousness means absolutely nothing to you because we are called into agreement with God through repentance, we are called to become like His Son through transformation wrought into us by the power of His Spirit.

This is what the Lord said to me about His statement in Hebrews 10:15 The Holy Spirit also is a witness to us: for after this he had said before,

16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;

17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

If we resist Him by going our own way then He warns us in the rest of this chapter.

Hebrews 10:26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins,

27 But a certain fearful expectation of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

28 He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:

29 Of how much worse punishment, suppose you, shall he be thought worthy, who has trodden under foot the Son of God, and has counted the blood of the covenant, with which he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and has done insult unto the Spirit of grace?

30 For we know him that has said, Vengeance belongs unto me, I will recompense, says the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.

31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

The righteous judgment on our lives through the entrance of God’s word brings with it strong conviction of sin because we are being transformed from glory to glory as we behold Him. Jesus is our righteousness which means that God justified us through the forgiveness of sin in the blood of His Son but we are commanded to repent through a process of sanctification otherwise God’s Son is trodden underfoot, and we insult the Holy Spirit who desires to conform our lives to the standard of Jesus Christ. When we continue in rebellion against God we count the blood of the covenant, with which we were sanctified, an unholy thing AND THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS THING.

This is exactly what the Apostle Peter meant when he wrote the following in 2 Peter 1

1 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Savior Jesus Christ:

2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,

3 According as His divine power has given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who has called us to glory and virtue: (we are called into relationship and agreement with God)

4 By which are given unto us exceedingly great and precious promises: that by these you might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. (God wants to transform us to become like Him, sharing His nature and holiness)

5 And for this reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;

6 And to knowledge self control; and to self control patience; and to patience godliness;

7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness love.

8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that you shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

9 But he that lacks these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and has forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

10 Therefore rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if you do these things, you shall never fall:

11 For so an entrance shall be provided unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Now you need to ask yourself if you are allowing or resisting the work of the Holy Spirit in your life.

2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

18 But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

God through the power of the new covenant gospel of His Son Jesus Christ of Nazareth desires to set us free through the knowledge of His truth. Allow Him to speak into your heart through the power of His truth by allowing His Spirit to work the necessary change that God desires.

James 1:22 But be you doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a mirror:

24 For he beholds himself, and goes his way, and immediately forgets what manner of man he was.

25 But whoever looks into the perfect law of liberty, and continues in it, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

26 If any man among you seems to be religious, and bridles not his tongue, but deceives his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.

27 Pure religion and undefiled before God the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

Through the righteousness of God you are called to become like His Son Jesus Christ.

1 John 2:4 He that says, I know Him, and keeps not His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

5 But whoever keeps His word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: by this we know that we are in Him.

6 He that says he abides in Him ought himself also so to walk, even as He walked.

John 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews who believed on Him, If you continue in My word, then are you My disciples indeed;

32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

33 They answered him, We are Abraham’s descendants, and were never in bondage to any man: how say You, you shall be made free?

34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever commits sin is the servant of sin.

35 And the servant abides not in the house forever: but the Son abides ever.

36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.

Be sold-out to God.

The devil will always defend the selfish agenda of the carnal fleshly ungodly nature of man. The devil will twist scripture to justify the wants of the flesh. The devil invented many denominations and contrary doctrines because Satan knows a house divided against itself will not stand. Satan trembles when a man of God preaches and teaches the truth about the cross we are called to bare because in the cross is the great secret revealed by which the Lord rescues sinful man from himself to bring him into the life and the order of the life of His Spirit.

Oil and water cannot mix together, neither can light and darkness. It is through the power of the cross by which God destroys all deception and satanic boundaries that wants to divide the body of Christ because through the death of self the Holy Spirit brings us together in the power and the agreement of His love. When the heart of sinful men is circumcised by the Spirit of God and taken out of the way then in holiness we behold the Lord.

This generation shall witness the unity, the love and the power of those who truly follow Jesus on the road of the cross. Satan hates and dispise the power and the work of the cross because through it he loses his hold and his ground as man surrenders himself to be clothed with the Spirit of God.

Through the cross we yield and we yield until we realise that God has taken a hold of us and we resist Satan’s temptations by the power of God. The cross strips us of self and all human weakness and enthrones Christ in the heart. It’s but for a season then in victory we stand. Let go of the world or let go of the Lord but you cannot have both or you shall find yourself living in the place of defeat.

I say to this generation that during the time of the tribulation many backslidden lukewarm Christians will find that they have been deceived and lulled to sleep by the god of the flesh who is always at work in the sons of disobedience.

Many religious church going people shall be confronted with the true gospel and many will have to make a choice between following their religious leaders, their churches or Jesus Christ. Belonging to a religious organisation does not make you a child of God.

Do you know the purpose of becoming a born again Spirit filled child of the King?

Do you understand what the Father’s will is for your life?

Do you recognise the voice of God or is your life so flooded with worldly rubbish that your idols drowns out His voice?

Are you pursuing holiness through sanctification by allowing the Lord to work the required change into you or are you complacent and living in your fleshly comfort zone?

God will shake everything that needs to be shaken and only those who allow Him to shake all that is not of Him out of their hearts is going to make through and endure until the end. We cannot claim to be children of God if we refuse to surrender completely. Halfheartedness is a very dangerous attitude in the times that we are living in. Repentance is to let go of the world and the things that ensnare and defile us and to grab unto God in COMPLETE SURRENDER.

There can be no half measures. The darkness is rapidly on the increase throughout the world and people need to make up their minds on which side they stand – GOD or the DEVIL.

The question God gave me for this generation is this: When you stand before His Presence in the judgment will it be as a friend, a stranger or an enemy.

Pure devotion toward the Lord is really simple because it only takes a decision to say yes to His dealings with you. How do you feel when your lover is halfhearted or insincere in their devotion towards you?

Make the choice and cry out to the Spirit of the Lord to come and conquer your heart because a heart that is void of the love of God becomes a bottomless abyss. A heart that is conquered by the love of God becomes the garden of the Lord filled with the delight and the atmosphere of heavenly bliss.

Malachi 3:17 And they shall be mine, says the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spares his own son that serves him.

18 Then shall you return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serves God and him that serves him not.
