Practical Christianity.

Don’t be deceived by only being a hearer and not a doer of God’s word.

By Pieter Kirstein

Many people only religiously claim to be in agreement with God and what He says in His word and have never actually allowed the power of the Spirit of the Word to work the required change into them so that they can then truthfully give testimony of the truth that they’ve heard.

To religiously quote scripture without living in the power and reality of God’s word is foolishness.

Repentance is when we allow the truth to cause a holy conviction in our hearts then willfully choosing to place ourselves under the authority of the truth and then to go before the throne of God about what we feel convicted of, then repenting and acknowledging that our lives, our minds and our hearts have not been in agreement with His word and asking Him to work the change into us to bring us into agreement with Him so that His truth might set us free.

This is exactly what James wrote about when he said – James 1:22 But be you doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a mirror:

24 For he beholds himself, and goes his way, and immediately forgets what manner of man he was.

25 But whoever looks into the perfect law of liberty, and continues in it, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

26 If any man among you seems to be religious, and bridles not his tongue, but deceives his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.

27 Pure religion and undefiled before God the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

The Holy Spirit told me that religion has deceived many people because they are like children playing in the dirt of sin and carnality then they come religiously on a Sunday to hear about the soap and cleansing power of the word of God then many walk out the exact same condition in which they came. Few actually apply what they’ve heard.

You can quote the entire Bible of by heart like a religious puppet the same as the devil but unless you submit yourself to the Spirit that brings life to the word to work change into you and to make God’s truth a reality in your life then the truth means absolutely nothing and you only deceive yourself.

Faith without works is dead religion.

Quoting scripture is not what produces God’s freedom, change and holiness. It’s doing what it says. I can say all the right things about God to impress others but unless you actually submit yourself in humble obedience before Him then the deception of your heart will only expose you in the end.
