Tithing

The truth about tithing.

God spoke the following to my spirit “God’s true shepherds does not enrich themselves out of the flock. They sacrifice themselves to enrich the flock with Christ. If you ask for money, then you are busy building your own kingdom. If you build My kingdom then I will supply the finances”

Jesus’s ministry was naturally supported by the Father as people was inspired by the Holy Spirit  –  Luke 8

8 Soon afterward, Jesus began going around from one city and village to another, preaching and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. The twelve [disciples] were with Him, 2 and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and diseases: Mary, called Magdalene [from the city of Magdala in Galilee], from whom seven demons had come out, 3 and Joanna, the wife of Chuza, Herod’s household steward, and Susanna, and many others who were contributing to their support out of their private means [as was the custom for a rabbi’s disciples].

The Apostle later conveyed the same principle in 1 Corinthians 9:11 If we have sown [the good seed of] spiritual things in you, is it too much if we reap material things from you? 12 If others share in this rightful claim over you, do not we even more? However, we did not exercise this right, but we put up with everything so that we will not hinder [the spread of] the good news of Christ. 13 Do you not know that those who officiate in the sacred services of the temple eat from the temple [offerings of meat and bread] and those who regularly attend the altar have their share from the [offerings brought to the] altar? 14 So also [on the same principle] the Lord directed those who preach the gospel to get their living from the gospel.

Under the New Covenant we become like Christ and we are led by the Spirit as cheerful givers, exactly as He did it.

Concerning the tithe issue,

Jesus spoke in Matthew 23:23 to those still under the old covenant and He never said anything about money.

Even since the beginning of the Levitical Priesthood God never instructed His people to tithe money, but out of the increase of their fields and stock that the priests would have food to eat for they had no inheritance amongst the people. Also God’s intended purpose was to provide food for those amongst His people who found themselves in need.

Deut 14:23  And you shall eat before the LORD your God, in the place which He shall choose to place His name there, the tithe of your corn, of your wine, and of your oil, and the firstborn of your herds and of your flocks; that you may learn to fear the LORD your God always.

28  At the end of three years you shall bring forth all the tithe of your increase the same year, and shall lay it up within your gates:

29  And the Levite, (because he has no part nor inheritance with you,) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within your gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hand which you do.

It was instructed under the old covenant given to Moses  –  Leviticus 27:32  And concerning the tithe of the herd, or of the flock, even of whatever passes under the rod, the tenth shall be holy to the LORD.

34  These are the commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses for the children of Israel in mount Sinai.

We see the principle of the tithe confirmed in

Malachi 3:8-9

8 “Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, ‘In what way have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings. 9 You are cursed with a curse. For you have robbed Me, Even this whole nation. 10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this”, Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.

The false teachers gleefully proclaims that if you don’t Tithe then you will be cursed with a curse.

If you’re not paying tithes, then you are robbing God.

This is the scripture they rely on the most to place the congregation under false fear.

The whole book of Malachi is speaking to the priests before Christ and the priests after the death of Christ.

The learned in the Word, even after a very short time spent in the Word of JHWE knows and are aware that Malachi was directed at Priests, the only problem is their members remain without the full knowledge.

For it is also written that the people perishes because of their lack of knowledge.

If you show me an ignorant congregation, then I will show you a very wealthy man, one who’s riches far exceed those of others in the same congregation and within their midst. There is always someone who emerges extremely wealthy off ignorant people, and the church is no exception to that rule.

Whenever you hear a preacher proclaiming that you’re robbing God if you don’t pay your tithes, then you must recognize that your shepherd is using the Book of Malachi to manipulate you into giving.

The book of the prophet Malachi is not a book that can simply be started by reading from the middle, because if man is to do that, then he will get the impression that God is referring to him directly. Now hear this and let us expose the lies to all who will hear!

The entire Book of Malachi was addressed to the Levi Priests.

The priests were the only ones who were allowed to approach the altar for offering and sacrifice, which is why the content in Malachi is a direction, an instruction that proclaims the quality of the offerings brought into the temple of God.

Malachi 2:1 And now, O ye priests, this commandment is for you. 2 If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, says the Lord of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart.

Ponder and meditate on the word as it is written in chapter 3:10  Bring ye all the Tithes into the storehouse that there may be meat.

Now the word of JHWE clearly prohibits the priests of Levi to own land, or possessions of any kind and prohibits them to farm or cultivate their own food, as the God of Hosts would supply all their needs.

Remember what we read about the tithe in Deut 14:23  And you shall eat before the LORD your God, in the place which He shall choose to place His name there, the tithe of your corn, of your wine, and of your oil, and the firstborn of your herds and of your flocks; that you may learn to fear the LORD your God always.

Recall the Word as it was given to Israel, that they should bring offerings into the house of JHWE so that the priests may make offerings to JHWE and that they may also not perish of hunger.

The Priest were eating the best meat that was delivered to the Temple – and the scraps of fat they placed on the alter. As it was then – as it is now.

Tithing in this part of the word, meat, referred to food, and not money.

JHWE wanted food in His house so the people would have something to eat in the flesh.  Spiritual food does not soothe real hunger pains. Even in the old testament the tithe was consumed and shared with the poor.

We even find the following said about food and clothing in 1 Timothy 6: If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; (which speaks of Christ-likeness)

4  He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof comes envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,

5  Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw yourself.

6  But godliness with contentment is great gain.

7  For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

8  And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

9  But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.

10  For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

11  But you, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

The priests that served in the temple were provided for out of the produce of the land so they might have food to eat and that is why Jesus said “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, justice, mercy, and faith: these ought you to have done, and not to leave the other undone.”

Nowhere under the New Covenant are we commanded by God to pay tithes yet many preachers manipulate the Bible to say what they want it to say and many enrich themselves by abusing the Bible.

If a preacher tells you that the blessing of Abraham will come upon you if you pay ties then he is lying to you because Abraham was already blessed by God before he ever met Melchizedeck.

Zack Poonen wrote – “Consider the matter of tithing, for example. This was a law under the old covenant. But it is never commanded by Jesus or the apostles to those under the new covenant.

Yet multitudes of covetous pastors compel their congregations to tithe compulsorily either through promises of divine reward or through threats of divine judgment. The people pay up, but without joy. It is not spontaneous giving, but grudging, reluctant giving. The pastors are happy when the offering boxes are full, but God is not. Pastors love large givers, but God loves only cheerful givers!

The new covenant principle is NOT, “Give as much as you can give”, but , “Give as much as you can give cheerfully”. God does not want any more than that. Of course you will receive in the same proportion as you give (2 Cor. 9:7; Lk. 6:38) – but that is another matter. God does not, however, desire any labour or gifts that are unwillingly given. What we do without joy is a dead work.

About the tithe given to Abraham by Melchizedek we see the following.

Genesis 14: 20-25
(20) And praise be to God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand.” Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.  (21) The king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the people and keep the goods for yourself.” (22) But Abraham said to the king of Sodom, “With raised hand I have sworn an oath to the Lord, God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth, (23) that I will accept nothing belonging to you, not even a thread or the strap of a sandal, so that you will never be able to say, ‘I made Abram rich.’ (24)  I will accept nothing but what my men have eaten and the share that belongs to the men who went with me to Aner, Eshkol and Mamre. Let them have their share.”

The false teachers professes that Abraham paid Tithes to God and was blessed, therefore you must pay tithes in order to be blessed.

But what they do not say, is that this was the covenant between Melchizedek and Abraham on the spoils of the riches found when Lot was saved from capture.

Many have told over the ages that Abraham made a covenant with God, that if he receives the victory in the approaching war, then he would pay a tithe of the spoils to God.

The truth in the Word which they never reveals is that Abraham was already Blessed before Melchizedek met him, therefore Abraham’s wealth was not contingent upon him paying tithes to God.

The scriptures, when read in the full context reveals what really happened was that Abraham went to war to recover his relative Lot, who had been taken hostage and all Lot’s possessions were taken. In the war waged to relieve Lot from captivity, Abraham also recovered the goods of King Sodom.

We read in verse
18 Then Melchizedek, king of Salem, brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High, 19 and he blessed Abram, saying, “Blessed be Abraham by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth.

The only way you can pay tithes according to the Abraham reference is to go to war on behalf of your brother, to recover your brother’s stolen goods from the thief who is also the next door neighbor, and then pay your brother in arms who came to your assistance a tenth of your own brother’s possessions for aiding you to retrieve it.

In this account of the payment of a tenth between Abraham and Melchizedek, a tithe equated to things, possessions, assets, and food.

The only way to truly remain accurate to this principal is for those who are in the congregation to give to their Melchizedek one tenth every week from possessions and riches that never belong to them in the first place.

Abraham was neither blessed by God for paying a tithe, nor did he pay a tithe to JHWE nor was he blessed by the payment of that tenth.

It was a covenant between men on possessions that belonged to those who were rescued and nothing more.”

The next account in

Gen 28: 18 to 22 18 So early in the morning Jacob took the stone that he had put under his head and set it up for a pillar and poured oil on the top of it. 19 He called the name of that place Bethel,[a] but the name of the city was Luz at the first. 20 Then Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God will be with me and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat and clothing to wear, 21 so that I come again to my father’s house in peace, then the Lord shall be my God, 22 and this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be God’s house. And of all that you give me I will give a full tenth to you.

The false teachers professes that Jacob made a pledge to God, and like Jacob we should also pledge to Tithe. Some shepherds even go so far as to say: “Jacob pledged the Lord his life and a tenth of all possessions in tithe, therefore you should have no hesitation when asked to give a tenth of your income.”

The lie is this!

Yes, it is true that Jacob made this pledge to God to pay one tenth of all of his possessions, but herein is the lie.  They does not want you to know and realize that this pledge he made was a Conditional pledge. The false teachers only holds the payment of the tenth before the congregation. They never reveal that Jacob had the one condition placed on his vow.

We read

18 So early in the morning Jacob took the stone that he had put under his head and set it up for a pillar and poured oil on the top of it.

“See that Jacob made a condition to his vow in verse 20.  Jacob required from JHWE to act first and in pledge of the requested victory he would then pledge a tenth of all his possession. The false teachers requires from the congregation today to throw money at the feet of their shepherd.

Jacob said: “if you be with me”.
Jacob said: “if you give me”.

The Tithe in this scripture is on condition that God does something first, not the people.

The false teachers has taught you that if you tithe first then you will receive a Blessing, but Jacob’s Pledge never promised that.

Man may decide to support a congregation or a man of JHWE from the wealth that God has provided to him, and then man does so out of his free will.

It is important that you understand that you’re not required according to the “Jacob’s Pledge” to do anything first, Jacobs plan was to see the real blessing from God first before he paid tithes.

Jesus spoke the following about money in

Mark 21:22 21 Then he said to them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s.

The false teachers have taught that this passage of scripture is saying render the tithe unto God, but when the Spirit of God opens the eyes of the reader, he will find that this scripture has nothing to do with paying tithes.

There is no relevance or even a connection between the scripture and the tithes.

Read the Word of God with an open eye.

In the days before this scripture was written down the Pharisees and Sadducees, during the last days of Christ on earth, got together, and plotted on how to ensnare Christ Jesus in a state of Treason with Rome. Their plan was to present Jesus with a coin which had an impression of The Ruler Caesar, as your money today contains impressions of rulers.

They asked Jesus should a believer pay tribute, honour, or taxes to the Head of State, as Caesar was honoured and due with the currency of Rome. Christ Jesus answered their question by proclaiming: “render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s” because that form of currency belonged to Rome.

“The ruler had the money designed to honour himself, so then the same money should be rendered unto him in the form of taxes.

The face of JHWE cannot be seen by man and therefor the face of JHWE was never placed on a coin.

The Savior didn’t have a matching form of currency. If you have no money, then what could you still render unto God?

Christ Jesus never placed a charge to us for Prayers or Worship, but to charged is to worship at his feet.  Praise and worship, the breaking of bread and the teaching of the Word in the churches of men will cost you an offering or a tithe.

The Pharisees and Sadducees had money from Caesar however the scripture never recorded the Son of God as having the same money.

Whereas Caesar had a Tax due and payable to Rome, JHWE never placed man under a burden of tax for the gift of his Son Christ Jesus.

JHWE demanded that man is to have no other God and He demanded man to Love thy neighbor – these are just two of the things that man must render unto God.

Every time man pay a tithe to the churches of men, man is in fact paying a Jesus Tax.

They profess that the payment of one tenth of your possessions is also demanded in the New Testament.

They again take and isolate a portion of the Word of JHWE and then they deceive man to bring into the coffers of their temples.

Hebrew 7:8 “And here men that die receive tithes; but there he will receive them, of whom it is witnessed that he lives.”

The false teachers deceives man into believing their rendition of the Word of JHWE and people never question the presentation of this scripture, because they believe their  teacher when he says it serves as proof of tithing in The New Testament.

Meditate and read the word in its complete body and then you would clearly see that the writer starts the instruction by recalling to memory, the rescue of Lot by Abraham.

Divide the instruction in two parts and you will find that the first half of Hebrew Chapter 7 is written to man in the shape of a parable or a story, so that man does not need to have another man interpret the simple and clear word of JHWE.

It serves as a recalling of Genesis Chapter 14.

When man does not read the complete instruction, from verse 1 to the end, then man could easily be cheated to come under the impression in verses 1 to 9 that Paul, is instructing man to pay tithes as Abraham paid tithes, but that is not so.

Meditate on the complete instruction from the beginning to the end and you will see that the writer says in so many words that those men died because none of them were Levi Priest nor descendants of the original Levi Tribe (The Tribe of The Priests), therefore their deaths were justified.

If you meditate on this word with insight received from the Holy Spirit, [Hebrews Chapter 7] then you will understand just how serious Paul felt about the collecting of tithes if those who collected the tithes, were not descendants of the Levi Priests.

Meditate further on Hebrews 7 verse  8 and in this depiction of the Word of JHWE, you will find that the men who received the tithing die; but there he receives them, of whom it is witnessed that he lives. 9 And as I may so say, Levi also, who receive tithes, payed tithes in Abraham. 10 For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchizedek met him. 11 If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchizedek, and not be called after the order of Aaron?

Paul goes on to conclude that we have no High Priest as ordained under the, Law but we do have Jesus, the one and only High Priest.]

22 By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament. 23 And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death: 24 But this man, because he continued ever, possessed an unchangeable priesthood.

If Christ Jesus is the only living, true and remaining High Priest since after the resolve of The Melchizedek and his priesthood, then why are you paying Tithes to the church?

Under the New Covenant doctrine as instructed through Christ, we simply become like Him and we become sons and daughters being led by His Spirit as cheerful givers.

2Co 9:7 Every man according as he purposes in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loves a cheerful giver.

Romans 8:14  For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

15  For you have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but you have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

16  The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
